Bolkan Pas de Deux is a piece about the strange mix between “Europeanness” and ”Balkanness” of Bulgaria. Bulgarians and other Balkanites can be generous, loving and just but the turbulent history of this corner of the world also brought gale-force winds: fears, antagonisms, hatred, suspicions and Cain-like revanchism. Just like everywhere else, really, except the Balkans carry a bigger than usual stigma.
